They are mostly two to two and a half story homes and most of them have what is called a Walkout basement or Daylight basement where the lower level is underground on three sides and open to the back or side with bedrooms or extra living space. Some hillside houses are built with the back of the house into the hillside and garages on the lower level. The main living area is often on the second level and because of this we usually see decks and balconies as a common feature of these type of houses. There is no main style for these hillside homes.
